Students getting swindled and used as a political pawn by the established Political Parties
It all started when a young girl named Gurmehar Kaur(center in the above picture) who is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree from Lady Shri Ram Collge for Women in south Delhi affiliated to Delhi University; started a protest against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's violence at Ramjas College and changed her profile picture in social media which stated "I am a student from Delhi University. I am not araid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #STUDENTAGAINSTABVP". Soon after sharing the picture it went viral and received thousand of reactions, like and comments and spread widely among the students from other parts of the country who were seen changing the profiles with their respective universities in her support.
On Feb 22, 2017 a scuffle broke out between two groups of so called students association Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), All India Students' Association (AISA) and Student's Federation of India (SFI) at Ramjas College, Delhi. The controversy began last week with a two-day seminar titled ‘Cultures of Protest’ organised by Ramjas College where Umar Khalid was invited to deliver a speech. Yes it's the same Umar Khalid who was arrested last year for sedition talk along with Kanhaiya Kumar for protesting 'Hanging of Afzal Guru' at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). ABVP widely protested the event and demanded to restrict Umar Khalid from entereing the campus.
Soon the protest turned violent as AISA and SFI are against ABVP and there were brutal attacks on innocent students, teachers and media along with members of the respective association. Now you may be wondering why are these different association against each other? Answer is very simple all these organizations are supported by different political parties and they use them for their political gains. ABVP is backed by RSS, AISA and SFI are backed by Communist Party of India (CPI-M).
This intense violence should be condemned as there were reports of serious injuries and molestation during this shameful act. University campuses are supposed to be place with highest security where students come and learn how to excel and progress in their life unlike using these places as political stage and gain publicity.
In my view ABVP's protest was absolutely right as there were incidents in the past where protest were held to prevent highly respectable people like Indira Gandhi, DR. APJ Abdul Kalam, Dr Manmohan Singh etc from entering campuses without using power and violence but why such behaviour now for Umar Khalid? Who is he? Why AISA and SFI are taking his side and getting involved in brutal attacks?
Answers can be derived by connecting the dots. It's a known fact that Umar Khalid is a close confidante of Kanhaiya Kumar who is the leader of All India Student Federation (AISF), the student wing of the Communist Party of India (CPI).
Lastly it's the responsibility of the students who are the future of our country to make a wise choice and refrain from getting wooed by the false promises of the politicians and concentrate on the purpose of joining the University which should be looked upon as a sacred place.
